Hi, My name is Ryan Rash,My Dads name is Rex Vanderwege and my mom is Cindy, I was told a couple of months ago That I have to have surgery for chiari malformation. When they first told me I thought what is that? But my head was hurting so much I could think about it. Then I wanted to know how it got there. My mom did a lot of research, she was told it was caused from a hit on the head. So we thought that it happened when I fell trying to climb out of my crib. Then she found some more information that said it was a birth defect. So we are still unsure how it all happened. I keep having night mares about it all and my mom keeps searching for information. We made this site hoping we could find some information and help. And some support. We had never heard of chiari malformation before, my mom said that when she was forst told, her forst thought was they are playing with me, making fun of me because they were so upset that I brought him to the hospital for a headache and upset stomach. When she got home she called the 800 number to talk to the nurse on the phone, the nurse looked it up because she had never heard of it before either, and found it was indeed a medical problem and nobody was joking. I still have to have my surgery, we have to go to denver for it. My docotrs here think I need to get in as soon as possible, but the nurosurgeon doesnt think it very important. He doesnt want me to come in till may 7th. My mom is trying to find a different doctor who will get me in sooner. My head hurts so much. As we go I will have my mom put everything on here so that others can know my experiences and medical treatment and how it all goes. Hopefully we can help and support each other.
